A STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF WARM SALINE WATER APPLICATION ON PAIN RESPONSE DURING HEELPRICK AMONG NEWBORN AT NICU, GOVERNMENT RAJAJI HOSPITAL, MADURAI

Objectives:To assess the level of painresponse during heel prick among newborn.To evaluatetheeffectivenessofwarmsalinewaterapplicationonpainresponseduringheelprickamongnewborn.Toassociatethepainresponseduringheelprickamongnewborn at NICU, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai with their baseline variables. Hypotheses: There isa statistically significant difference betweenthe post test levelof pain response newborn both in intervention and controlgroup.Thereisastatisticallysignificantassociationbetweenthelevelofpainresponse NICU variables.Conceptual framework: Roys adaptation model. Methodology: True experimentalresearchdesignwasused,60samplesselectedby Simplerandomsamplingandintervention given 2 minutes before prick. Post was assessed by NeonatalInfantPainScale.Results:Thestudyrevealedthattherewasasignificantreductionin (t=1.25, p=0.21) 0.05 level. Conclusion:Statistical evidence shows that warm saline effective.
